About Us
Natives of Hawaii, Jerry and Dinny Trinidad honor the traditions, values and thoughts of their Hawaiian culture. The desire to create a consulting company was a natural path; a vision of giving to others what they have been privileged to learn.
Action Strategies Institute is committed and embraced by the Kukui (candle nut), Hawaii’s state tree. Our company logo reminds us of the hard work of our first Polynesian settlers who introduced the tree to our islands. The kukui tree is a classic example of the wisdom of ancient voyagers who strategically chose to bring plants on their canoes that served many useful purposes. The kukui was most valued for its light from extracted oil, the nuts are widely used as traditional lei, and bark, flowers and nuts are all used for medicine. The bark served as cloth and the tree trunk was fashioned into canoes.
Our goal is to offer you strategies to serve many purposes and to illuminate a path of knowledge, confidence and usefulness with a goal of influencing others to do the same.
Dinny speaks to the value of human resources by honoring the connection of leadership, team focus, attitude, wellness and commitment. With more than 25 years in Human Resources management, Dinny brings first-hand knowledge in organizational development, strategic planning, contract negotiations, union-free environment, employment, labor law and vision. She has created, implemented and cultivated organizational vision and philosophies, developed executive committee and manager transformational retreats.
Dinny has designed award-winning corporate programs in training, safety and employee relations philosophies. She has spoken to audiences about the impact of positive human relations programs and consulted with corporations using real life examples and dialogue so that they know exactly what to do the next time their employees tell them what they won’t do.
Close to her heart is the development of our youth and Dinny chaired the Hotel Education Partnership Program task force comprised of the Department of Education and Hawaii Hotel and Lodging Association in the design of a tourism academy curriculum that will integrate pride in our islands and its diversity, understanding the need to appreciate tourism as our state’s leading industry, and the development of core competencies that will instill integrity and personal accountability for career as well as life choices.
Jerry recently retired from the Honolulu Police Department after 30 years, the last twelve as a detective. His core investigative work focused on violent crimes toward helpless victims perpetuated by others in conflict with their self imposed issues.
Jerry doesn’t waste time on theories and doesn’t insult your intelligence on sharing “book knowledge.” As a hostage negotiator, certified mediator and volunteer at the local Crisis Center, he’s “been there and doing that”. He shares real life experiences and techniques that have proved to be effective with disgruntled employees with guns or drugged out strangers in conflict and confused.
One of his most popular seminars centers on the prevention of Workplace Violence where he shares information on how to prevent, defuse and survive dangerous situations. The serious, sensitive subject is presented in a highly interactive setting where participants will laugh and learn as they discover what to do and say so they can work in a healthy environment, and then return home safely to their families.
